Jack Abbot was a convicted criminal. He had previously worked as a hired thug for prominent New York City crime boss Leland Owlsley (a.k.a. "the Owl").

Attorney-at-law Matt Murdock (secretly Daredevil) visited Jack Abbot in prison to work on preparations for Abbot's upcoming parole hearing. Abbot knew that something big was about to break wide open. (This was just before some of Daredevil's greatest foes escaped from prison and plotted revenge against Daredevil.) Abbot knew that his former boss the Owl was in charge of a new criminal organization which was planning to attack New York City's top crime boss, the Kingpin. Abbot didn't give Matt Murdock all the details, but he provided him with a clue about this plot, and he tried to warn Daredevil to stay away from the impending chaos.
