Nerve-maggots feed on and devour pain. While doing so, the alien creatures cause their victims to experience time as if it is passing much slower than it really is. A few moments of pain seem like "an eternity." Tarantula and Colleen Wing of the Heroes for Hire were subjected to the nerve-maggots for only a few hours. But when they were rescued, they believed that they had been enduring the nerve-maggot torture for years.
