Kenneth Tennyson was a 17th Century Puritan who left his home in Europe to travel by ship to America in order to seek a land that would better allow him to practice his religious beliefs in freedom and purity. En route from Europe, his ship ended up sucked into the Negative Zone. Stranded in the Negative Zone, Tennyson eventually became known as "Hellscout" and it became his new goal in life to hunt down and destroy the Negative Zone's arch-villain Annihilus.

Hellscout helped the struggle against the N-Explorers in the Negative Zone. Hellscout personally decapitated Annihilus, but the villain later regenerated.
