Franz was a minor Nazi character who first appeared in Marvel Universe #1 (June 1998) and died in the subsequent issue.
Franz was an officer of the Schutzstaffel (S.S>). He was among numerous Nazis who appeared in these two issues, which featured a story in which the Invaders opposed a plot by Baron Strucker and the Red Skull to have the Third Reich take over the world. Aside from the main recurring villains (mainly the Red Skull), the other Nazis in this story arc were unnamed. Franz had some level special of authority or importance in the plot.
When Franz was first seen, he was accompanying Baron Strucker to the Dragon of Death.
In Marvel Universe #2, Franz learned from Baron Strucker how he had obtained knowledge about the future. Strucker then shot Franz, killing him. Perhaps Baron Strucker did not want anybody else alive who knew this secret.
Franz's corpse was seen in Marvel Universe #3 because Baron Strucker dressed the dead Nazi in his own clothes, in order to trick Captain America into thinking that he (Strucker) was dead.
