The Grim Guardian manifest on the astral plane, a creation of Eric Masterson's subconscious rage and other base emotions. The Grim Guardian guarded the first Thor and then fought Masterson himself, in his guise as Thor's successor. Masterson defeated and absorbed the Grim Guardian, "destroying" the entity in a way. But because the Grim Guardian was merely an aspect of Masterson's personality in the first place, what was actually "destroyed" may be an open question.
