Herbert Gutman was attempting to create a slime that would clean up oil spills by feeding on oil to dispose of it. He found he had created a slime, controlled by electricity, that could devour just about anything. Gutman tried to sell the slime to terrorists to use as a weapon, first demonstrating its power on a nearby town. The Marauder (a gestalt manifestation of Team America's members) turned the slime away from the town onto Gutman's building. Gutman tried to flee, but he ended up being by the very slime he had unleashed.
