Al B. Harper was a highly intelligent geologist who befriended the Silver Surfer. He looked for a way to release the Surfer from being trapped on Earth. Harper learned that the Stranger planned to destroy the Earth. Harper found the Stranger's bomb and died defusing it, giving his life to save the Earth. Harper was buried with a grave marked by flame from the Silver Surfer. After Harper's death, the Silver Surfer stayed in Harper's home while on Earth.
