Lord Zano was the son of the Xartan warlord Ugarth. Zano and Ugarth were leaders among the Xartan race, who were known as the "Carpon Copy Men" because of their innate metamorphic power to duplicate the appearance of others.

Zano's father had conquered many worlds, but when he tried to conquer Earth he was defeated by Thor. Ugarth apparently died when Thor hurled him into space.

Years later, Zano attempted to gain vengeance for his father's death. He was defeated by X-Factor.
