Dire Wolves were an enemy of the super-hero Captain Britain at some point in time between Super Spider-Man and Captain Britain #253 and the British Hulk Comic #1. Dire wolves are an actual extinct species of the genus Canis (related to dogs). Perhaps writer Alan Moore envisioned Captain Britain combating creatures whose name was simply inspired by the name of this extinct species, or perhaps Captain Britain actually battled real Dire Wolves.
