Professor Baldwin seems like the prototypical, hardcore Transhumanist. He was born with some kind of birth defect that rendered him incapable of walking. He was obsessed with improving the human conditioning by combining animal DNA with humans. Baldwin went to great lengths, including conducting illegal and extremely unethical experiments, to further his goals.

Further research of these stories would probably verify this, but Professor Baldwin was almost certainly an atheist. At one point Baldwin and this story's hero, Andrew Prentiss (secretly the hero Illuminator) got in an argument about the differences between theology and science in the role of man.

Professor Baldwin is probably also guilty of Scientism, but his Transhumanism is very overt and trumps any generic Scientism.
