Professor Roderick van Nuys was a former professor of Reed Richards. In a story set before the formation of the Fantastic Four, Reed Richards learned that Professor van Nuyus was suffering from Sebert syndrome, a degenerative nerve disease. Richards was able to cure his former professor using energy he temporarily possessed from his interaction with the mystical Claw of Bast.
