Jav-Nur is one of the Kryptonian Stellar Navy soldiers who, along with Karsta Wor-Ul, deserted the military so that they did not need to return to Krypton and give up their yellow sun-spawned super powers. Most of these deserters were eventually captured or killed by authorities or the anti-Kryptonian mercenary Amalak.

Jav-Nur is first named in panel 1 on page 11 in Superman #669. Jav-Nur pushes his friend and fellow deserter Karsta Wor-Ul out of the way as Almeraci soldiers attack the deserting Kryptonians. Jav-Nur tells Karsta, "They're armed with us in mind, Karsta -- and in an orange system, we're weak enough to be hurt! Rao, what I wouldn't give for a light cruiser . . ."

Note here how Jav-Nur casually invokes the name of Rao, the principal god traditionally worshiped by Kryptonians.

Karsta, following Jav-Nur's helpful push to get out of the way, tells her friend, "Hold 'em off, Jav, while--"

In the next panel (panel 2 on page 11), Karsta recalls, "We wern't exactly pushovers, even on Rockmoon. Jav-Nur quaked the floors beneath them, melted a few gunbarrels..."

Jav-Nur was seen in a number of panels before this. Jav-Nur is apparently the Kryptonian military leader who, seen from behind, tells Karsta and other offices that they are being recalled to Krypton, as shown in panel 1 on page 7 in Superman #669.

In answer to an officer's question about why they are being recalled, this leader (who has dark skin like a black person of Earth and is bald) tells his officers (including Karsta), "Elections. Old Har-Zod thought he had a lock on his position. He thought wrong."
