Major Remington Sole of S.H.I.E.L.D. was a SHIELD Projects Coordinator. In this role, he is the one who directed the constructed of the third Deathlok (Jack Truman). He secretly amassed mind-control chips which he intended to use to create an army of cyborgs which he would be in control of.

Sole was coerced by the villainous Red Skull to allow him access to these chips. The Red Skull used one of Sole's own chips on him, thus allowing the Red Skull control over Sole.

Sole's dealings and manipulation by the Red Skull brought him into conflict with the X-Men, who eventually defeated both Sole and the Red Skull. One of the things that happened at this time is that the Red Skull used Sole's technology to control Douglock. He used Douglock to attach the S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier.
