Ro-Kul is first shown in panel 2 on page 13 in Superman #669. Karsta Wor-Ul is recounting her history to Superman. She describes meeting Ro-Kul during the time in her life when she was a mercenary: "It was on board the Retaliation, under the command of Iaq Rhaqqam, that I met Ro-Kul. He was ex-Stellar Navy too, but if I'd never gone rogue, I'd never have met him. Never had the years we had together. That's something I'll never regret."
Ro-Kul and Karsta became lovers for many years, eventually leaving mercenary work behind, exploring the galaxy together, and then and setting up a secluded home for themselves in an isolated region of space.
