The Ghostworks is (are?) a collection of artificial intelligences dwelling in a hidden section cyberspace. As hacker Kenshiro "Zero" Cochrane was dying from poison, he uploaded his mind to cyberspace. The Ghostworks chose him as their avatar to the physical world, and gave him a robotic body that became known as Ghost Rider.

Initially the Ghostworks referred only to the hidden area of cyberspace where the creators of Ghost Rider dwelt. Later in the Ghost Rider 2099 series, the artificial intelligences also came be referred to as "the Ghostworks."
