Note: immense snake w/great mystic and erotic power

The precise nature of the Carnal Serpent is not entirely clear, but it seems best to classify it as a denom animal. It is certainly no ordinary snake. It was immense, for one thing, plus it could speak and appeared to possess sentient intelligence. It is a snake (or snake-like creature) of great mystical power and is probably other-worldly in origin. It is quite possible that the Carnal Serpent that appeared in Marvel comics stories represents or was based on the tempting devilish serpent from the Biblical account of the Garden of Eden.

The villainous Olympian deity Priapus (son of Aphrodite and Dionysus) sought the Carnal Serpent, but in the end was apparently destroyed by it.

Vatsayana's Tryst is an ancient mystical artifact associated with the Carnal Serpent.

The Carnal Serpent and the quest of Olympian demigod Priapus for Serpent was a major plot point in a cross-over story involving Marvel heroes Terror, Silver Sable and Luke Cage.
