Betty Ross was a friend of Captain America and Bucky. (This was the Betty Ross who would become the heroine "Golden Girl," not the Betty Ross who was Bruce Banner's girlfriend and later his wife.)

Betty Ross was working for a boss who turned out to be Communist spy. (Betty had not known this.) Captain America and Bucky took him down and thwarted his nefarious plans against the United States.
