A drunk driver was featured in 11 panels on pages 5 and 6 in the Superman story in Action Comics #12. In this story, Superman literally declares war on reckless drivers. Drunken drives appear to have been particularly disliked by the Superman creators Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. This issue's incident is the Superman's second recorded run-in with a drunk driver, after the opening scene in Action Comics #4. In both cases the drunk drivers were portrayed as dangerous, reckless, and completely irresponsible.

This issue's drunk driver apparently comes from a Christian background. An angry Superman lifts the car (with the man in it) off of the ground and jumps into the air, carrying the man and car aloft with prodigious leaps. The drunk driver cries out in shock, "HALP! Heaven preserve me! I swear I won't drink no more!"

It is probably impossible to determine this drunk driver's precise denominational affiliation other than to point out that he clearly not an observant Latter-day Saint or member of any denomination other whose members strictly abstains from alcohol).

In the brief space accorded this issue's unnamed drunk driver, little else is revealed about him. He drives a nice car and is probably a person of some means. He wears a suit, as do most men in Supermen's world, and a white hat. He has a thin moustache. He draws Superman's attention by driving drunk on the wrong side of the road, weaving wildly and forcing other cars to swerve to get out of his way.

The drunk driver ends up fainting from fright while soaring through the air carried in his car by Superman. When Superman finishes leaping and leaves the car on a nearby bridge he looks inside the car at the unconscious drunk. Superman observes, "Fainted! I guess next time he drives, if he ever does, again -- he'll leave the liquor alone!"
