Pete Asconio was a "steelworker" who tragically fell to his death while working on the construction of a skyscraper, the Atlas Building. Asconio was the 5th construction worker to die within the space of 5 days while working on the building. Superman investigated and found that the building's construction was being sabotaged by an agents of a rival construction company, whose president desired to put Asconio's employer out of business.

Pete Asconio and his fellow deceased colleagues are specifically identified in Clark Kent's newspaper article as "steel workers." One should recognize that this word has two somewhat different meanings, even today. "Steel workers" most ofen are thought of as workers engaged in the production of steel, such as in a steel factory. But the word "steel worker" also commonly refers to construction workers who build skyscrapers (because they work with steel girders).

Aside from his occupation and the details surrounding his death, nothing was revealed about Pete Asconio in this story. Superman did eventually obtain a measure of justice for Asconio and the other murdered steel workers. Superman caught the people responsible. The top man behind the sabotage - rival construction company owner Nat Grayson - was sentenced to the electric chair for his crimes.
