Mr. Abrams runs New York Now, which is a newspaper or magazine. Peter Parker tried to get a job there, but Mr. Abrams refused to hire Parker due to a bad recommendation from Dexter Bennett, the unpleasant man who replaced J. Jonah Jameson as owner of the Daily Bugle. It was not clear exactly what Mr. Abrams' official title was. He may have been the editor-in-chief or publisher or both. The important point of the character was that he had the ability to hire Peter Parker, and he declined to, illustrating how thoroughly Dexter Bennett had damaged Parker's employment prospects.
