The fireproof natives were an African tribe that utilized a potion which rendered them immune to flame. They were manipulated by Namor the Sub-Mariner into attacking the Human Torch. Although they can be regarded as antagonists in this story because the fought the heroic Human Torch, the fireproof natives never really meant to do evil. They were simply primitive tribalists who were used as pawns by Namor.
