When Clark Kent and Lois Lane went undercover to the Green Hat, one of the most glamorous night clubs in Metropolis, the headwaiter gave them a terrible table, right behind a massive column. They realized they would be unable to see the floor show. At Lois Lane's suggestion, Clark Kent gave the headwaiter a $20 bill, and the man realized he had a much better table for them.

With Lois's encouragement, Clark Kent continues to tip liberally, trying to establish a picture of himself and Lois as very wealthy guests. Later, the same headwaiter tells society reporter Peter Peeker, seated at a nearby table, about the way that Clark and Lois are "tossing money around as tho they owned the mint!"

This is exactly what Lois Lane and Clark Kent had wanted to happen. They had successfully baited a trap for the "Black Gang," criminals who were preying on wealthy patrons of high-society night clubs. With the unknowing assistance of the snooty headwaiter, Lois and Clark had baited a trap, with themselves as the bait.

Although the headwaiter did indeed provide information to Peter Peeker, who later turned out to be a member of the criminal Black Gang, it does not appear that he knew anything about Peeker's criminal activities. Peeker may have been moonlighting as a criminal, but he really was the society reporter for a major newspaper. The headwaiter probably just thought that he was providing a juicy tip to a reporter about the social scene in the swank club.
