Note: his prayer was answered; gathers the Foursaken

The First Fallen was originally a king who ruled an alien world unknown ages ago. A deeply religious man, the king prayed to preserve the glory of his world. In answer to his prayer, he made contact with the essence of endless perfection. This essence took over his body and transformed the king into what is essentially a cosmic entity: The First Fallen. This powerful entity has been called the opposite of the Phoenix force. Whereas the Phoenix seeks to perpetuate the cycle of death and new life, the First Fallen seeks to end this cycle by preservin life endlessly. Yet the First Fallen accomplishes this, by freezing entire races of beings endlessly, has been called a fate worse than death.

The First Fallen is an interesting character in the way he began as a very religious, sincerely prayerful mortal and was then transformed into a powerful being whose existence and actions have cosmic-level religious significance and meaning. The philosophical contrast between the First Fallen and the Phoenix, both of whom can be regarded as enemies of all living beings generally and the X-Men specifically, is apparently a central point of the 3-issue story that featured this enigmatic character.

The First Fallen also appears as an angel, complete with wings. This story is confusing. Is the First Fallen a cosmic entity? Or an angel? Both? We need to re-read these stories to better understand this character.

This character is in the following 3 stories which have been indexed by this website:
