Brad Gutman was the mortician for the super-hero team X-Statix. Brad was also a necrophiliac. His job allowed him regular private access to corpses, which he used for his own personal satisfaction. Brad claimed that he genuinely "loved" his "guests," the dead bodies he took care of. But his "romantic" affection for these dead bodies simply disgusted his wife and other people who found out it, including the super-heroine Dead Girl.

Brad Gutman and his wife Brenda had a young daughter named Britney who was shot dead by police when she aimed a gun at a crowd of people. Britney had decided to go on a shooting spree because of the conflict at home between her parents. Britney's parents argued about Brad's necrophilia and its effects on their daughter.

Dead Girl caught Brad in the morgue as he was about to molest his recently killed daughter. Dead Girl killed Brad Gutman and then summoned the spirits of his victims to torment him.

Although Brad Gutman (before he died) was the senior mortician who worked for X-Statix, the super-heroes on the team apparently did NOT know about his necrophilia.
