Zed was a very religious and spiritual man. After he died, his followers continued to venerate his name and follow his teachings. Zed's religious followers were known as "Gault."

Zed was Shatterstar's sensei. Many of Zed's enemies -- and apparently many of his followers as well -- were ninjas. It is not yet entirely clear to us if Gault should be classified as a ninjutsu religious sect or a distinct, independent religous group. At this point it seems that Zed's religious group can be classified as a Ninjutsu religious group, although Zed appears to have had many higher ideals and more standard religious teachings than are found in many ninjutsu sects, which are often be self-serving.

Zed's wisdom and piety was such that his followers were very loyal to him even after he died. Furthermore, Zed earned the sincere admiration and friendship of Cable, who was himself a religious leader and deeply ethical man.
