Raek was an alien thief who had been associated with Lila Cheney, the rock star girlfriend of Sam Guthrie, a.k.a. "Cannonball" of the New Mutants. Lile Cheney herself had a considerable past as in interstellar thief. Raek led a gang of crooks (four mostly unnamed fellow Zyndarian were seen). Raek tried to force Lila Cheney to help him and his gang steal the Jewels of Ikerno. This brought him and his gang into conflict with Cannonball and the other New Mutants. The New Mutants defeated Raek and his gang.
Raek and the other Zyndarians looked essentially human, but they had small wings on their shouldes that allowed them to fly. Possibly the wings were simply part of their outfits. Little was ever revealed about the Zyndarians. It is likely that Raek and his thieving cohorts were poor examples of their race.
