Roger Midas was a talented clarinet player who dreamt of becoming an orchestra leader. But his wealthy workaholic banker of a father, Harvey Midas, would have none of such "plebian" pursuits.

After some life-changing events, however, Roger's father mellowed and accepted his son's dreams. At the end of the story that featured him, he became orchestra leader of his own group: "Roger Midas and his Melodeers."
