Leonard's mother was a "Parental Assistant" accompanying her son as part of a group of grade school students to the Smithsonian National Design Museum in New York City. Leonard's mother heard her son laughing at the Spider-Mobile on display the museum. Leonard was also taking this opportunity to laugh at Spider-Man. His mother yelled at him, incensed because her husband had once been saved by a fire by Spider-Man, who she now regards as a national hero.
