During World War II, Bernard Riggley was the owner of the Brooklyn Badgers professional baseball team. Team manager Chuck McArthur wanted to own the team for himself. McArthur donned a disguise and as the "Black Toad" he murdered Riggley.

The Brooklyn Badgers are Marvel analogs of the Brooklyn Dodgers.
