Sumu-Abu was an actual ancient Babylonian ruler. He established the First Dynasty of Babylon in approx. 2100 B.C.

In modern times, General Immortus, the arch-enemy of the Doom Patrol, used Robotman to uncover the great temple of Sumu-Abu. (The temple is also described as a tomb. It is probably both.) The temple (or tomb) contained massive gold statues which the evil Immortus planned to use to finance his operations. The Doom Patrol thwarted the villain.

In this same story, General Immortus steals two of the Stones of Babylon. The Chief (Niles Caulder) was worried that Immortus would be able to use the arcane lore from the Stones of Babylon for some sort of diabolical scheme. As it turned out, General Immortus was able to translate the Stones of Babylon and it was information he gleaned from them which allowed him to locate the tomb of Sumu-Abu. Thus, a number of elements in this Doom Patrol story were related to ancient Babylonian religion, history and culture.
