Dave met the Beyonder and became an ardent believer in the omnipotent being as well as his "best friend." With Dave's encouragement to accomplish great things, the Beyonder destroyed Death. The Molecule Man appeared and yelled at the Beyonder for doing this. Once the Beyonder and Dave realized the error in their ways in disrupting the cosmic order by desroying Death, Dave volunteered to become the new Death in order to reset things back the way they were before.
