Dr. Benjamin was a psychiatrist who worked for the world's top intelligence agency, S.H.I.E.L.D.

Dr. Benjamin was murdered and replaced by the evil psychiatrist Doctor Faustus, who was working as an agent of the nefarious Red Skull. This murder was part of a plot by Doctor Faustus to infilitrate SHIELD and subvert the wills of many SHIELD agents to his will. This plan was largely successful, as Doctor Faustus was able to use Dr. Benjamin's access to various SHIELD agents to create many sleeper agents within the SHIELD organization, agents who performed tasks on behalf of Faustus and the Skull.

Dr. Benjamin's body was found well after Doctor Faustus had launched his plans. The investigation into Dr. Benjamin's murder was headed up by SHIELD chief Tony Stark himself, with Agent 32 and other SHIELD agents working in the field, such as in Dr. Benjamin's home, where his corpse was discovered.
