A window washer named Phil (based on his nametag) was working on the building across the street from where Johnny Storm's girlfriend, supermodel Kourtney Keaton, lived. Some sort of malfunction with his harness and platform occurred and he began to fall. Kourtney Keaton, despite the fact that she is amazingly self-centered, was actually the one who noticed Phil falling and told Johnny to save him. Johnny Storm quickly flew out the window and rescued the man. But the Human Torch would not have noticed Phil falling had it not been for Kourtney.
