David Garrett provided financial backing for Gilbert Wiles so he could monitor and study the Uni-Power. A.I.M. Lombardi, an agent of A.I.M., killed Garrett after he outlived his usefulness. Lombardi framed Uni-Power researcher Gilbert Wiles for the murder, prompting him to seek legal help from Matt Murdock (a.k.a. Daredevil).
Ultimately, Daredevil captured Lombardi, who then confessed everything to him.
