Elise Erickson died from cancer when her daughter Mia was still a child. But Mia knew her mother long enough to remember that she talked about Thor all the time. Elise Erickson sincerely worshiped Thor. Beyond simply regarding him as a great hero, she literally prayed to him. She apparently taught her daughter Mia to do the same.

Elise Erickson had explicitly stated that she would raise her son Zachary to believe in Thor. It is clear from Mia's letter that Elise raised Mia the same way. Mia believes that her late mother is in Heaven, where she is watched over by Thor.

Mia wrote to Thor:

"Dear Thor,
Your my favorite hero. My Mom uset to talk about u all the time. She's in Heaven now. Before she went to heaven she sed you would wach over her. I no [know] your keping her safe becuz your the Best Hero. You keep everone safe.
Sincerely,
Mia Erickson
