When Janet was a younger child, she and her older brother Davy were imprisoned by a demon known as the Bottle Imp. Doctor Strange was able to rescue them. Years later, Doctor Strange recalled this incident to a young girl named Rosa. By then, Davy had became a world-famous stage magician known as David Copperstone. Janet, still a student, sometimes amused her friends with magic tricks.

If "Copperstone" is merely a stage name used by David Copperstone, then Janet's actual last name is unknown. She was only referred to as "Jan" and "Janet" in the story.
