Special Agent Maher was part of a contigent of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents on the scene at the Avengers Mansion when the Scarlet Witch attacked the Avengers. The Scarlet Witch (perhaps subconsciously) caused She-Hulk to "hulk out", get out of control, and attack her teammates.
On page 4 in Avengers #501, Agent Maher called in for reinforcements using a comlink: "This is Special Agent Maher at Avengers Mansion!! We have a real problem down here! And if anyone is reading this, please send the Hulkbuster Initiative into-- WHOAH!"
Agent Maher then watched helplessly as She-Hulk grabbed Captain Britain (Kelsey Leigh) by the head and threw her at the observing SHIELD agents.
