Toward the end of the "Acts of Vengeance" event, Magneto became enraged at fellow super-villain the Red Skull for his Nazi acts of war during World War II. Magneto used his powers to torment the Red Skull and beat him, and then imprisoned him with a limited supply of water in order to force the Skull to think upon his past misdeeds.

In order to cover up the Red Skull's absence, the Skull's henchman Crossbones worked master roboticist Machinesmith to create a Red Skull robot duplicate. The Red Skull robot appeared in public a few times before it was discovered that it was a robot. It was then destroyed.
