During a time when Steve Rogers temporarily quit being Captain America, a few other men thought they could fill the role. One such man was Scar Turpin, a member of the Sickle Cycle Club (a motorcycle gang), based in San Rafael, California. In panel 3 on page 7 in Captain America (vol. 1) #179, Scar Turpin says: "Y'know, that ain't such a funky idea! If nobody's claimin' the name, anybody could climb into that costume an' ride! Anybody-- meanin' Mrs. Turpin's kid, Scar!"
