When Captain America (dressed in civilian attire) wanted return to New York City from Los Angeles as quickly as possible, he used his SHIELD A-1 Priority badge to get on board a private charter flight. Cap was shocked to learn that the flight was full of gangsters, led by Dr. Faustus.

Captain America quietly tried to blend in until he heard Dr. Faustus's plans - the gangsters were going to use advanced weaponry to take over New York City! Cap slipped away, donned his super-hero costume, and confronted the gangsters.

One of the gangsters Captain America battled was named Barney. Barney wore a solid-color suit coat and fedora, a pin-stripe dress shirt, with a brightly-colored polka dot tie. Like all the other gangsters on the fight, he constantly wore sunglasses.

Barney's name was revealed in panel 3 on page 13 in Captain America (vol. 1) #192. After using a brain-stunning "sonic depressor" wapon on Captain America, Dr. Faustus said: "However, he received only a very small dose of the ray, thus there is no telling how long he'll be so docile. Barney, I suggest you remove him now and tie him up."
