Bernice Stewart was the wartime girlfriend of Steve Rogers (a.k.a. Captain America). After Rogers was thawed from the ice in which he was trapped for nearly 50 years, he made his way back to the home of Bernice. She had long since moved on with her life, marrying and becoming the mother of a daughter: Sharon.

Bernice was named for long-time Captain America girlfriend Bernie Rosenthal. Bernice Stewart's daughter Sharon is essentially the 1990 "Captain America" film's version of long-time Captain America girlfriend Sharon Carter.

Both Bernice and her daughter Sharon are portrayed by the same actress in this film: Kim Gillingham.

When the Red Skull's agents invade Bernice's home in an attempt to locate Captain America, they cause Bernice's husband (Jack Cooperman) to suffer from a heart attack.
