The Vulture (Isidoro Scarlotti) was a villain who kidnapped and killed roboticist Professor Costene in order to obtain his robot formula. Using the formula he obtained from Costene, the Vulture created his crime robots. The largest of his crime robots was named Metallo.

When superheroes Human Torch (Jim Hammond) and Toro went to the Florida Everglades to investigate the disappearance of Professor Costene, they encountered the Vulture's deadly crime robots. They were able to defeat most of the robots by tricking them into going into the swamp, where they were short-circuited by water. But then they went to the Vulture's hideout, where they had to battle Metallo. They were able to smash Metallo and free the Vulture's hostage (Betty Wilson, daughter of the local police chief). But the Vulture got away.
