Dweller-in-Darkness is an extradimensional demon, a Fearlord native to Everinnye.

Dweller-in-Darkness renounced the connections of his origins when he chose to follow the Way of Shumblu.

According to some accounts, Dweller-in-Darkness existed in the universe prior to the current universe. Or, he may simply have had a counterpart in that universe.

It was the Dweller-in-Darkness who influenced Zoltan Drago to develop a gas that instills fear in people, and to adopt the costumed identity of Mister Fear.

Dweller-in-Darkness was first introduced as "Fear" (also referred to as "he who walks in darkness"), a major adversary of Thor in Thor (vol. 1) #s 229 and 230 (1974). But the character was not actually seen on panel. Dweller-in-Darkness was physically seen (and identified for the first time as "Dweller-in-Darkness") in Doctor Strange (vol. 2) #30 (Aug. 1978). This issue of Doctor Strange features a flashback that specifically identifies Dweller as the demon who plagued Thor and Hercules in Thor #229.
