Duke was one of the many hired thugs who worked for Kingpin.

Daredevil (going undercover as a mercenary for hire) was present with the Kingpin when Duke entered the scene, clearly badly beaten. Duke seemed like he was barely alive. He had been beaten by Bullseye, but let alive to deliver a message to the Kingpin.

Before slumping to the ground unconscious, Duke told the Kingpin that he must meet with Bullseye's bosses (other crime lords of New York) if he wants to see his kidnapped wife Vanessa alive again. Duke provided the time and place, and that was the end of the message.
