Jimmy Hughes, a retired news editor, was investigative reporter Ben Urich's idol. Until, that is, Ben found out (in the course of an ostensibly unrelated news story) that Hughes was working for organized crime for almost twenty years!

Ben Urich was deeply disappointed. He confronted his former editor and former idol about this unethical behavior. This coincided with a trial Ben Urich faced of his own: The Kingpin was tempting him with a large, beautiful house, something his wife Doris would love, a place they could live in instead of their rat-infested city apartment. But Daredevil found that this was the Kingpin's way of buying Ben Urich. The reporter was forced to decide how best to be a good reporter, a good husband, and a good man.
