Mr. Jenk (whose first name was never revealed) was a member a strict, Amish-like sect known as the Congregation of Righteousnes. They were located in upstate New York. The sect did away with modern technology in their lives and lived a lifestyle free from sin, crime and divorce.

Mr. Jenk had two sons, Nahum and Jeremiah. Jeremiah was caught drawing pictures which were contrary to their faith's strict beliefs. He was beat with a stick as punishment. Later his brother Nahum pointed out more drawings by Jeremiah. Another beating was ordered for Jeremiah, but rather than submit, he hit his father with a stick.

As punishment for striking his father thus, Jeremiah was ordered to be put to death. Rather than submit to that punishment, Jeremiah ran away, and lived apart from the sect. He became an incredibly accomplished, respected counterfeiter, and ultimately he was an ally of the Kingpin. Many years later, as an old man, Jeremiah wanted to reconcile with the faith.
