Heidi DeVoto was an actress who was hired by the Kingpin as a decoy look-alike to keep his wife safe. Heidi looked similar enough to the Kingpin's wife Vanessa Fisk to fool the Kingpin's enemies. In the past, the Kingpin's enemies had kidnapped and threatened Vanessa Fisk in order to gain leverage over the Kingpin. To protect his wife, the Kingpin hired Heidi DeVoto as a "stand-in" for Vanessa.

Unfortunately for Heidi DeVoto, the Kingpin's concerns were validated when Heidi (as "Vanessa Fisk") was kidnapped by Micah Synn of the KinGorge tribe and sacrificed by the tribe's witch doctor (the Vikah) in a ritual for their tribal god Mow.

Daredevil tried to rescue Vanessa, but was too late to prevent the sacrifice. After he thought Vanessa Fisk was dead, the Kingpin revealed that the woman killed by the Vikah had really been Heidi DeVoto, a decoy.
