When Tommy was a young boy, he was rescued from the top of a water tower the by X-Man named "Beast." Unfortunately, a group of onlookers were enraged that there was a mutant in their midst and they attacked the Beast and his friend, Iceman.
Tommy is the nephew of super-powered soldier Jack Hazzard, who (many years later) battled Daredevil and Black Widow.
