"Pup", the Science Officer for the Partyers from Mars, is a parody of Spock (from the Star Trek TV/film series).

Although there were previous glimpses of the space craft carrying the "Partyers from Mars," the crew member known as "Science Officer" was first identified specifically on page 8 in Megaton Man #3 (Apr. 1985). At this point he is not yet seen. The Partyers' space craft is seen here on a splash page, along with dialogue:

"Engineer! What's going on here?!!!"

"I never seen a-nuthin' like it, Cap'n, sir! She just won't stay on the bloody course! It's like she's got a mind of her own!!!"

"Science officer! Explanation!"

"Captain, a Klingon Party store has us in some sort of tractor beam!!! Resistance is futile!"

"Warp six, Helmsman!!!"

"Aye aye, Captain!!!"

"--And get those empties ready!!!"

Later in this issue, beginning on page 13, the Science Officer is one of a number of characters who are clearly visible but heavily shadowed. The Captain calls him "Pup."

Media Officer, examine the artifact of Earthling media. Cruise Director, dispense the brews. And somebody -- fold up that big paper bag. Okay. Now it's time to discuss the remainder of our mission. First Officer Pup, break open the sealed orders.

Pup resembles a humanoid dog, with large floppy ears. His appearance is thus distinct from the other Partyers, suggesting that he is an alien of a race different from the one most of them belong to.

In response to Captain's orders, Pup reads from a paper (the just-opened sealed orders the Capain referred to): "These are the voyages of the Mars-ship 'George Has a Gun' -- Its light-year mission: to explore strange, new thrills; to seek out night life, new intoxication; and to party wherever you damn well please! P.S. Rock planet Earth inside out!"
