Janey existence was first discernible when (on page 15 in Megaton Man #3), M. F. Trombone's letterer suggests he start drawing comic strips about his sister-in-law Pamela Jointly.

On the bottom of page 15, the latest "Doomesbury" strip shows that Trombone follows his letterer's suggestion.

On the next page (page 16), Janey's name is mentioned for the first time when Pamela calls Trombone to complain.

Pamela Jointly: " Just because you're married to my sister does not give you the right to put my personal life into your stupid strip! Not to mention Stella Starlight's! News? Topical? Satire? Doesn't it have to be funny to be considered satire? You used to have a sense of humor, but buster, you've lost it! You've lost touch! You oughta come down from the 60th floor once in a while... So how's Janey? ...Janey, my sister?!! ...You're married to her?!! ...Yeah, that one. ...Well, give her my love, and my lawsuit's in the mail."
